Rose is a darling 14yo girl who is sweet, shy, and very passionate about dance and soccer. She likes to hang out with her friends, watch movies and go out for coffee with her mom. Like so many teen girls, she loves to watch You Tube videos and learn new hair styles and make up tricks.
Rose is very close with her mom and has an older sister who is grown and lives in another town.
While Rose has a wonderful and fulfilling life as much as any 14-year-old girl in the Twin Cities, she has struggled with much more than the average teenager.
Growing up, Rose was surrounded by love and a tight knit family of her sister, mom (Jessica) and wonderful, loving father figure whom her mom planned to marry. 1 month before the wedding, when Rose was in 2nd grade, he unexpectedly passed away. It was tragic and life changing for all 3 of them.
Jessica’s Mom swooped in to provide a consistent source of strength and love during this difficult time. Rose and her grandma developed a very close relationship. That’s why she really took it hard when her grandma passed away 2 short years later.
Dance and soccer are Rose’s choice of sports and she puts much of her passion and energy into extracurricular activities. Then, one day, she just fainted. TWICE.
Her mom took her to the doctor and after several tests they sent her down to Children’s where they discovered a problem with her heart. At the age of 11, Rose was diagnosed with a genetic condition which causes an electrical malfunction and her heart can just STOP. It is induced by exercise. To compound the problem, it was passed to her through her mom and her mom discovered she has the same condition.
Once the doctors were able to balance her medicines effectively, she was able to join her sports and normal activities again. But she needs to be aware and careful, keeping an AED with her at all times.
She and her mom are powering through this challenge together. They are a very close duo, mom and daughter. They stay active and engaged with each other, going shopping, grabbing coffee or just hanging out and talking.
Through Make-A-Wish, Rose has requested a space of her own, that any teenage girl would dream of having in a bedroom. Our designer, Laura, from Laura Engen Interior Design, is collaborating with Rose to create a wonderful respite of grey, where Rose can gather under a beautiful, lofted bed and watch movies with her friends, or spend a quiet evening with her mom. A vanity/dressing space that any movie star would covet, will be created where she and can practice make-up and hair. A space where Rose can spend hours creating, sharing and calling her own as she grows confidence, independence and strength to dream and plan for her future.
