Paxton’s Story

Spring 2016 • Designer Mark Nunemacher
Paxton is an energetic, 7 year old boy with 2 brothers and a baby sister. He lives in St Paul with his family and was born with Polymicrogyria, a brain abnormality that causes uncontrolled epilepsy. Despite trying over a dozen anti-epileptic drugs, he still has devastating seizures every day. He also suffers from an extreme form of autism.
Gracie’s Room has teamed up with Make-A-Wish to build a room where Paxton can work on his motor skills, building up muscle strength and to calm himself by listening to music or watching videos.
Mark Nunemacher of Hickory Chair Showroom and Design M.A.N. Interior Design and Consultations, LLC is donating his time and design skills to create a soothing space with soft, cool colors. A special toy storage unit where Paxton can learn to sort/store his many educational toys in color coded fashion is being built by Eric Flom of Southern MN Woodcraft. It will be installed free of charge.
Light controls are being installed by Carol Anderson at True Blue Electric as a goodwill gesture – because Paxton is light sensitive, this will allow flexibility depending on his mood.
Contract Flooring at the IMS has donated an area rug to warm the space.
While Gracie’s Room receives many donations to make these #HealingSpaces come to life, it is a true community effort by many who donate their time and talents! THANK YOU!
