Jenna's Story

Fall 2012 • Designer Jennie Korsbon
Jenna Carnes is 15 years old and loves to dance.
She also has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). ALL causes weakness, fatigue, frequent or unexplained fever and infection, bone pain, joint pain, and other symptoms.
In the fall of 2012, Gracie’s Room partnered with Make-a-Wish, MN to makeover Jenna’s bedroom. Jenna knew what she wanted – she wanted a bedroom that was brown and cream. From the beginning she was very involved, spending time with Jennie learning about the process of creating her new space. At each turn Jenna became more passionate, loving and imaginative. The process helped distract Jenna from her illness and gave her something to look forward to. Jenna like many teenagers sees her bedroom as her refuge. A place that is all her own.
On the day of the “big reveal” close friends and family lovingly occupied Jenna. When the 6:00 hour came, Jenna led the group into her new bedroom called “Hot Cocoa and Marshmallows”. Happiness, excitement, thrills, tears and laughter erupted all at the same time. It was so much more than Jenna ever dreamed.
The single goal of Gracie’s Room is to deliver the child’s wish x 10. Success!
Be yourself, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
~Dr. Seuss
